Blogging, Laundry, Shopping, the travel triumvirate (Netherlands Day 20)
A necessity of long travel, laundry beckoned this day. I woke up early, snagged breakfast at the hostel, spent some time drafting blogs (yet to be posted), and walked over to a laundromat. Utrecht may be 900 years old this year, but life essentials blend right into shopping and residential where mixed-use never went out of style.
Washing, 4.80€. Drying, 2.40€. Walking around urban canals still used for merchants and pleasure boats, priceless. (Cash only.)
After finishing my laundry, I bumped into some others from our crew blogging in the hostel lobby (which is set up something like a coffee shop or other eat/work/chat space). A few of us (Delaney, Nick, and I) set off for lunch from a vegetarian food cart with the particular style of food from the same state of India where our classmate, Anisha, hails from. Oh. My. God. It was delicious!
The cart had a prime place next to the previously-mentioned mall. We headed in to find a few other necessities (clothes, Lush body wash, etc). We stopped at a museum gift shop dedicated to Miffy, a beloved Dutch bunny whose overwhelming cuteness caused me to maybe buy myself a kid's book about Miffy and her bike. (Maybe as in now I totally own a picture book in Dutch.)
I had one more shopping stop to make about a block, block and a half, from our hostel. The feminist bookstore of Utrecht, Savannah Bay! Why need out about one interest when one can need out about multiple interests in one day?!
Afterwards, I went back to the hostel to rest. It's amazing how easy it is to do all of the little things from picking up groceries to people watching in a medium density mixed-use place like this neighborhood. I just might love it here.
Next up: Transit, a piece of the pedal puzzle (Day 21 Netherlands)
Random pic of the day: This statue leaning on the rail, looking at the canal.
